Information on repair and maintenance of Volvo FM cars electronically

The Volvo FM is not just one vehicle, but a family of commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of between 18 and 50 tonnes. Volvo FM replaced another FL family.

The first generation Volvo FM was introduced in 1998, and production lasted until 2001. The engines and chassis of the FM family were the same as those of the first generation FH, but the cab was inherited from the FL. As for the engines, three engine options were installed under the hood: D7C with a volume of 7.3 liters, D10B with a volume of 9.6 liters. and D12C with a volume of 12.1 liters. The series includes modifications such as FM7, FM10 and FM12. And all of them can have both a manual gearbox and an automatic gearbox.

The second generation Volvo FM was presented in 2001 along with the updated FH model. In addition to the updated design, the Volvo FM also received a new D9A engine with a volume of 9.4 liters, and the D12C engine was replaced by the D12D.

4 years later, in 2005, the first facelift took place. So, the world was presented with an updated diesel engine D9B, which could have a capacity of 300, 340 and 380 horsepower.

And in the fall of 2005, the presentation of the updated Volvo FM took place. As before, the aspen changes have taken place in the engines. A new D13A motor appeared, which replaced the D12D. And the power of the new engine reached 480 horsepower.

Volvo FM can be equipped with nine drive axle and chassis options, different brakes and suspensions, incl. pneumatic. In addition, as part of the modernization, the frame began to withstand heavy loads, which made it possible to install various bodies and superstructures.

In 2007, the second facelift was carried out. And again, changes have occurred in the engines. A new D13B engine has appeared with the option of being equipped with a particulate filter. And the D9B engine was replaced by a new D11B with 390 or 430 horsepower.

Three years later, in 2007, the next generation facelift was performed. This time, they changed the appearance with an external radiator and updated headlights. But the engines were not without changes either. D11C replaced D9B and D11B.

In 2013, the third generation Volvo FM was introduced to the world. The cars received new D11K and D13K engines that meet all Euro-4 requirements. The cockpit remained unchanged.

The Volvo FM is not an ordinary car. Therefore, the approach to it must be appropriate. Carrying heavy enough loads, the car is exposed to heavy loads, which can disable it. Only timely maintenance can prevent damage. But any manipulation requires knowledge and relevant information. The latter can be easily found in a dedicated guide.

The repair and operation manual has been created specifically for vehicle owners in order to help them independently perform various manipulations. So, the manual contains answers to such questions:

  • how to repair an engine of various modifications;
  • how to repair clutch and axles;
  • how to perform maintenance;
  • how to repair wheels and tires, etc.

The book will be useful to all owners and drivers of these vehicles.
