Information on repair and maintenance of Suzuki Jimny cars electronically

Suzuki Jimny is a small Japanese SUV produced by Suzuki since April 1970 in four generations (1970, 1981, 1998, 2018). Not only was it made in Japan, but it was assembled and manufactured in different locations with varying levels of integration of local parts. This small car with an affordable price and low fuel consumption was one of those that started the trend of selling SUVs as “entertainment” and “image” vehicles in other markets in Europe and South America, going beyond the purely professional and utilitarian nature. p>

In 1967, the Japanese Hope Jidosha Company (or HopeStar) introduced the HopeStar On360 small SUV, launched in 1968. The HopeStar On360 was powered by a 359cc Mitsubishi two-stroke engine. cm air-cooled and 25 hp

After financial troubles, HopeStar, which sold only 15 of its planned 100 units, sold the rights to the 4WD car and its technology to Suzuki that same year.

Based on the HopeStar On360, the manufacturer develops Suzuki's first all-wheel drive SUV, launched in 1970 and powered by the original Mitsubishi4 twin-cylinder engine.

While all Suzuki light SUVs have been available in Japan under the Suzuki Jimny name since 1970, they only appeared in Europe in the third generation, introduced in the summer of 1998.

Suzuki Jimny, introduced in 1998, is more comfortable and more suitable for everyday use. In August 2005, the car underwent a cosmetic restyling.

In the European market, the Suzuki Jimny was initially offered in two models:

  • sedan (closed);
  • convertible since 2000 (open, with tarpaulin roof).

Suzuki Jimny is offered exclusively as a sedan when production ceases in 2009.

Both variants are powered by the 1.3-liter petrol engine with 4 cylinders and 16 valves, which is typical for Suzuki. The engine has a power of 86 HP

In addition to the gasoline engine, Suzuki also offers a 1.5-liter common rail diesel engine from Renault with 65 hp. Like the gasoline engine, this engine develops 86 hp.

The convertible as well as the diesel models were manufactured for the European market by the Spanish off-road vehicle manufacturer Santana Motor. Production of the convertible ended in 2011 when Santana closed.

Following the end of the partnership between Suzuki and Santana in 2009, Suzuki announced that there was no customer support for cars produced by Santana as it was not Suzuki but Santanas.

The end of Santana in 2011 means that for vehicles manufactured in Spain (most notably the Suzuki Jimny Convertible), vehicle-specific spare parts supply is no longer guaranteed.

In the fall of 2012, the Suzuki Jimny was revised again. The front end has been redesigned with a new radiator grille and redesigned bumper. Only the bumper was slightly tweaked at the back. The SUV also received a new paintwork, upgraded equipment and new upholstery for the seats and headrests. On the technical side, there were no changes.

Even the most reliable SUV requires timely maintenance and diagnostics. Therefore, it is advisable that the car driver understands the basic issues of self-repairing his car.
