Information on repair and maintenance of Subaru Forester cars electronically

The Subaru Forester is a C-segment SUV produced by Japanese manufacturer Subaru since 1997 for 5 generations to the present.

It is a five-seater SUV with a longitudinally opposed front engine and permanent all-wheel drive with the brand's signature Symetrical AWD system.

Subaru Forester's competitors include the Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander, Ford Bronco Sport and Toyota RAV4, as well as crossovers such as the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage.

All Subaru Forester engines were naturally aspirated petrol (2.0-liter or 2.5-liter) until 2008, when the H4 boxer turbodiesel engine was introduced.

The Subaru Forester is very popular in the USA, Canada, Scandinavia and Switzerland, where it is highly regarded for its reliability and build quality.

Thanks to the use of a boxer engine, the Subaru Forester is lightweight for a car of this size (just over 1400 kg). This allows the Subaru Forester to be maneuverable and safe in almost all situations, especially on snow, thanks to the Subaru Symmetrical AWD (All Wheel Drive) system, which guarantees perfect symmetry between the engine, transmission and axles, and also ensures the stability of all Subaru on the road even in extreme situations.

The first generation Subaru Forester was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 1995. Its marketing began in February 1997 in Japan and in 1998 in North America.

The Subaru Forester is designed in the style of a classic station wagon, but with higher ground clearance, a higher seating position and four-wheel drive.

The basic version of the Subaru Forester was sold with a high level of equipment as standard (ABS, air conditioning, power windows, central locking, fog lights, roof rails, rear window defogger, trailer wiring harness connector, adjustable steering wheel, radio, antenna in the left rear window) .

The car was also fitted with three-point seat belts for all five seats, including front force limiters and height-adjustable anchorages.

The second generation was unveiled at the 2003 Chicago Auto Show in 2002. Based on the new Impreza platform, it is an enhancement to the first model.

The third generation Subaru Forester was presented on December 25, 2007 in Japan.

This model was developed by Subaru Chief Designer Mamoru Ishii. This new generation of Subaru Forester ditches frameless side windows.

In 2008, the Subaru Forester has grown in almost all dimensions (+76 mm in length, + 46 mm in width and + 110 mm in height) and has a sloping surface of the line. The ground clearance also goes up to 230 mm.

The fourth generation Subaru Forester was unveiled at the 2012 Guangzhou Auto Show and then at the 2013 New York International Auto Show.

The following changes have been made:

  • transmission CVT;
  • reinforced frame;
  • added 4WD control system to ensure stability on many types of surfaces
  • Equipped with EyeSight system (also present on Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback and Subaru Exiga).

Subaru Forester has grown and is now 4590 mm long, 1796 mm wide and 1732 high. The weight is 1656 kg.

The fifth generation Subaru Forester was unveiled in March 2018 at the New York Auto Show.
