Information on repair and maintenance of Volkswagen Passat cars electronically

The Volkswagen Passat is a mid-size car from the well-known Volkswagen company, production of which started in 1973, and has a history of eight generations. Today the assembly of this model is carried out at two factories in Germany.

The first generation Volkswagen Passat was presented in 1973. And initially gasoline engines with a volume of 1.3 liters or 1.5 liters were installed under the hood. Such motors were also installed on the Audi 80. But in the fall of 1975, the volume of 1.5 liters was increased to 1.6 liters, while the power did not increase, the torque became slightly higher. Three years later, in 1978, the line of engines was replenished with a diesel engine with a volume of 1.5 liters.

Volkswagen Passat B2 is the second generation of the model, which was launched in 1981. The Audi 80 also served as a platform. VW B2 became a little longer than its predecessor, and also became the owner of an updated appearance. As in the previous generation, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines were installed under the hood of the B2. In 1985, a facelift took place, in which the cars received larger bumpers, a new grille and new taillights. In the spring of 1988, production of the second generation ceased, and over the entire existence of the generation, more than 4.5 million copies were produced.

The presentation of the third generation took place in 1988. And the model was the first cross-motor variation that had nothing to do with Audi. The engine range for the third generation was very diverse and included both gasoline and diesel engines, with and without supercharging. The third generation ended in 1993.

The fourth generation Volkswagen Passat is a deep restyling of the third generation.

The fifth generation was presented in 1996. Once again, the models have been unified with the Audi A4 and Audi A6. This made it possible to install more powerful longitudinal engines under the hood. Volkswagen Passat В4 was produced only in sedan and five-door station wagon bodies.

The sixth generation was presented in the spring of 2005 in Geneva. And the model stopped sharing the platform with the Audi model. Volkswagen Passat В4 is built on the PQ46 platform and has a transverse engine arrangement.

The seventh generation, although it has the designation B7, is in fact a modernized Volkswagen Passat B6.

The eighth generation is built on the MQB platform. The range of engines is striking, for the Volkswagen Passat B8, ten engine options are available, both gasoline and diesel with power from 120 to 280 horsepower. These engines can accelerate to 100 km in just 6.1 seconds, and the maximum speed is 240 km / h. In winter 2019 Volkswagen Passat B8 went through restyling.

Volkswagen Passat cars can be found on the roads around the world. At the same time, the production of this model continues today. Therefore, the issue of repair and maintenance remains very relevant. Of course, he can visit the service station, but many manipulations can be performed independently. But for this, it is better to purchase a repair and maintenance manual, which will help answer such questions:

  • how to find the problem yourself and fix it;
  • how to change oils and filters;
  • how to perform maintenance, what tools and measuring devices are needed for this;
  • how to repair the chassis, etc.
