Repair and service Volkswagen cars in the eBook
Volkswagen, sometimes referred to as VW, is a German car manufacturer that founded the Volkswagen Group brand, the second largest car manufacturer in the world.
The name Volkswagen is associated with the fact that in Germany in the 1930s a project arose to create a car accessible to a large number of people. When Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933, he decided to launch a plan to develop the auto industry with the aim of restarting his factories and making them more competitive than the British and French.
Thus, a competition was announced among entrepreneurs for a concession for the production of a so-called people's car (the word Volkswagen literally means "people's car" in German).
Ferdinand Porsche was commissioned to carry out a project that aimed to create a simple and inexpensive car, affordable for most Germans.
In 1936, three prototypes (two sedans and a convertible) were presented to the Fuehrer, who ordered a site to be found to build a factory for the production of popular cars. The site was chosen to build a new town around the factory, the future Wolfsburg, in Lower Saxony, near Hanover.
Hitler chose the name Kdf-Wagen (Kraft durch Freude: "strength through joy") for the car, but neither at the factory nor throughout Germany has anyone used a name other than Volkswagen.
At the very beginning of World War II, the Kübelwagen (tank car) was born, used as a light transport by the officers of the Wehrmacht and the Schwimmwagen (a car that floats or is amphibious).
After the war, the Volkswagen factory was reopened and the model, developed before the war, updated accordingly, finally went into production and was put on the market under the Volkswagen 1200 brand name, better known as the Beetle. The success was literally overwhelming.
In the nineties, the range was expanded with the release of the city car Volkswagen Lupo in 1998, family versions of the Volkswagen Golf (1994) and Volkswagen Polo (1997).
But the most exciting news of recent years has certainly been the birth of the Volkswagen New Beetle, a modern version of the legendary Volkswagen Beetle that debuted in 1998. Compared to the VW Beetle, the VW New Beetle was born as a mid / high-end car and is based on the VW Golf. But he failed to replicate the incredible sales success of his ancestor.
In the list of 10 best-selling cars of all time, Volkswagen has three cars, namely:
- Volkswagen Golf, (C-segment car, produced since 1974. It is one of the best-selling cars in history, produced over 30 million units, sold in three- and five-door hatchback and five-door station wagon versions)
- Volkswagen Beetle (popular A-segment car, produced from 1938 to 2003, which became one of the most popular cars in the world);
- Volkswagen Passat (high-end passenger car of segment D, produced since 1973).
