The Toyota Fortuner (also marketed as Toyota SW4 and Toyota Hilux SW4) is a mid-size SUV based on the Toyota Hilux produced since 2005 by the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota. Initially, they were collected only in Thailand, later - in Venezuela, Argentina, Indonesia and other countries.
Only available as a 5-door SUV. It was powered by a 2.7-liter R4 VVT-i petrol engine and a D4-D R4 2.5 / 3.0 diesel engine. Currently, the 2 TR-FE petrol engine with a displacement of 2647 cc 3 and the diesel 1 GD-FTV (H) with a displacement of 2755 cc 3 are also used.
Engine power from 102 to 238 horsepower is transmitted to the rear axle (AWD option) via a 4-, 5- or 6-speed automatic transmission. Also, the car of this model has three rows of seats and is available with both rear and all-wheel drive.
Toyota Fortuner is part of the Toyota IMV project in Thailand, which also includes Toyota Hilux and Toyota Innova. The vehicle was developed in Thailand by Thai and Japanese engineers.
The Toyota Fortuner is an emerging market project based on the IMV platform of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck, which simplifies parts interchangeability in addition to being more reliable.
The difference between Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Hilux is that the rear axle does not have a leaf suspension, but has coil springs, which provide a smoother ride.
In August 2008, a slightly revised Toyota Fortuner model was released. It has major changes:

- new dashboard;
- new taillights;
- DVD-based navigation system
- Bluetooth connection;
- new light beige interior;
- electronically adjustable driver's seat for 4WD models;
- air outlets for the air conditioning system for the second and third row of seats;
- one newly developed stabilization system;
- traction control and electronic brake force distribution with emergency braking.
Its front end is similar to the front end of a Toyota Land Cruiser.
In 2015, a new version of the Toyota Fortuner model, based on the Toyota Hilux AN120 / AN130, entered the market. As an option, it is available with a newly developed 2.8-liter diesel engine and with five or seven seats.
Up front, the new version of the Toyota Fortuner uses an independent double wishbone spring suspension with an anti-roll bar. Behind there is a dependent spring five-link suspension with a Panhard rod.
Like its predecessor, the new car is available with rear-wheel drive and Part-time all-wheel drive. The car has electronic locks for the center differential, which is responsible for the distribution of torque between the axles.
In normal driving mode, the distribution of torque occurs in a ratio of 40% to the front axle, 60% to the rear. When the center differential is locked, for example off-road, this ratio reaches a 50:50 distribution. Powerful versions of Toyota Fortuner are additionally equipped with a mechanical rear cross-axle differential lock.
A modified version of the car was presented in 2020.
Any technique tends to fail and Toyota Fortuner cars, unfortunately, are no exception. For them, as for other vehicles, it is necessary to carry out maintenance. This will ensure maximum safety and extend the service life. Repair work cannot be avoided either.
