Information on repair and maintenance of Toyota Camry cars electronically

Toyota Camry is a D-segment passenger car of the Japanese manufacturer Toyota. This is a five-seater car that was originally launched as a Toyota Celica sports car sedan and changed its appearance throughout its existence until it was transformed into a luxury car in its latest generations.

The first version of the Toyota Camry was released in 1979, and in 2019 it is the best-selling sedan in the world with 19 million copies in forty years, with the 8th generation.

It is currently the so-called executive sedan of the Toyota brand, positioning itself above the Toyota Avensis and Toyota Corolla models, as well as the fifth model with the longest production period of the Toyota brand.

The name Toyota Camry (translated from Japanese means "crown") was first introduced by Toyota in 1978 and referred to the sedan version of the Toyota Celica, and since 1982 it has become an independent series from its progenitor.

The first series, designated the V10, was launched in March 1982 at the Toyota plant in Tsutsumi. The main change in the Toyota Camry from the Toyota Celica was the switch from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive, again with a front-engined engine.

The model was available with engines ranging from 1.8 to 2.0 liters in both petrol and diesel versions. After restyling in 1984, the first series was produced until 1986.

Throughout its history, production has been divided into the Toyota Camry with a narrow body (from 1979 to 2003) and a wide body (from 1991 to the present). During this period, there were versions of the narrow and wide body that coexisted between 1991 and 2003, for which it was necessary to use the nomenclature to refer to different generations. The narrower models were called the Toyota Camry V, and the wider ones were called the Toyota Camry XV.

There are six generations of Toyota Camry V in total:

  1. Celica Camry from 1979 to 1982
  2. V10 from 1982 to 1986
  3. V20 from 1986 to 1990,
  4. V30 from 1990 to 1994
  5. V40 from 1994 to 1998
  6. V50 from 1998 to 2003)

And five generations of Toyota Camry XV:

  1. XV10 from 1991 to 1996
  2. XV20 from 1996 to 2001
  3. XV30 from 2001 to 2006
  4. XV40 from 2006 to 2011
  5. XV50 from 2011 to 2017.
