Information on repair and maintenance of Toyota Avalon cars electronically

The Toyota Avalon is a midsize sedan built in the United States by Toyota and offered exclusively in North America. It was also produced in Australia until July 2005, before being replaced by the Toyota Aurion in November 2006. It is a four-door sedan with front-wheel drive. In Japan, the first two generations were produced as Toyota Pronard. However, the third generation no longer existed there. The model also disappeared from the Australian market.

Toyota marketers have successfully positioned the Toyota Avalon as an elegant car for those who value high-level automotive style. It offers ease of operation, comfort in everyday use, and also stands out for its reliability and safety. This positioning makes the car an attractive choice for those who value the combination of style, convenience and reliability in a car.

The first generation Toyota Avalon was introduced in 1994 at the Georgetown, Kentucky plant. The second generation was released in 1999 and introduced in the USA and Japan. A touchscreen navigation system was first installed in 2000.

This car was created to fill the gap in the Toyota lineup after the Toyota Cressida was withdrawn from the market in 1992. Unlike the Toyota Cressida, which was a rear-wheel drive car, the Toyota Avalon is a front-wheel drive sedan with a V6 engine.

In 1995, the Toyota Avalon was introduced as an all-new car built on the Camry platform. It was equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine 1MZ-FE, which developed a power of 192 hp. (140 kW) and torque 285 Nm.

In the second generation, the Toyota Avalon has noticeably increased in all respects. While maintaining the basic Camry platform, the car received an upgraded 3.0-liter V6 engine equipped with a VVT-I system, which allowed it to develop a power of 210 hp.

The car was offered in two trim levels - XL and XLS. Standard equipment included an Optitron electroluminescent screen, an ABS system, and front airbags. Additionally, it was possible to order a more advanced audio system, 16-inch wheels and other options.

In 2003, the model underwent some changes. The car's design has been updated with a new grille, headlights and taillights. The list of standard equipment has also been expanded.

On the Japanese market, the Toyota Avalon was introduced under the name Toyota Pronard, but due to low demand, deliveries of the car to Japan were stopped.

A new third generation was released in 2005 and was again significantly larger than its predecessor. It now features a 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 200kW and 336Nm of torque. In 2008, the Toyota Avalon received a minor facelift, which included a slightly redesigned front end and the addition of a six-speed automatic transmission (previously a five-speed).

The fourth generation Toyota Avalon was first unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show. It is built on the same platform as the Lexus ES, and, in comparison with the previous model, has become more compact. The length of the car has been reduced to 4,960 mm, the width is 1,835 mm, and the height is 1,460 mm. The wheelbase remained at 2,820 mm.

The redesigned 2016 Toyota Avalon was unveiled at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show with seating for five and outstanding fuel economy. The car's design is characterized by harmonious horizontal lines, standing out among its competitors. The 2016 model occupies a leading position in reliability ratings. In this version, most of the physical buttons have been replaced by touchpads.

The fifth generation was presented in January 2018 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Sales in the United States began in the spring of 2018. After the 2022 model year, the Toyota Avalon was withdrawn from the US market. The cessation of production is due to falling sales figures and increasing interest in large SUVs.

The fifth generation also comes with improved vehicle technology and numerous standard safety features. There are more versions than before: XLE, XSE Nightshade, Limited, Touring and TRD. Beginning with the 2021 model year, the Toyota Avalon was also offered with all-wheel drive in XLE and Limited trims. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 151 kW (205 hp) and 250 Nm of torque, which is also used in the Toyota Camry.
