Cars manufactured by Smart are owned by the international concern Daimler AG. The Swiss watch company Swatch, together with the Dailmer-Benz corporation, initiated the development of a two-seater, super economical car. The model was first presented in Frankfurt back in 97.
Smart City Coupe is the first model, the production of which was immediately organized in two modifications. Each was powered by a turbocharged three-cylinder engine. In the Pure modification, the engine was 0.6 liters, and the working power was 45 horsepower. Pulse models were produced with a maximum power of 55 horsepower. Included was a six-speed transmission with an electric clutch.
Most interestingly, the engine in the model is located at the back, which drives the rear wheels. The maximum speed that the car could develop was 135 kilometers per hour.
In 1999, they released a new modification of the car called Passion, which resembled Pulse in its filling, but was additionally equipped with air conditioning, fog lights and a safety capsule - a steel frame. By this time, they began to produce Smarts with the smallest diesel engine, with a volume of 0.8 liters and a capacity of 41 horsepower. But by 2003, all the old engine models were discontinued and they began to produce 3 modifications, with a volume of 0.7 liters and a capacity of 50, 61 and 75 horsepower, respectively.
Smart sales departments were opened throughout Europe: Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Austria and others. In 2000, the company becomes the first in the world to equip cars with Internet access.
The Smart Forfour was no less popular. It was distinguished by its large body dimensions relative to previous models, and the interior was supposed to have 4 or 5 seats for passengers. Initially, sales of the model were not great, and the model was removed from production. But when the sales of Smart Fortwo were successfully launched in the USA, and the popularity of small cars increased, and the Forfour model was resumed.
Smart Forfur was produced in 9 different modifications, which differed in their motor system. The mini-car could be equipped with a 1.1 - 1.5 liter engine, with a capacity of 74 - 97 horsepower, respectively. Gasoline consumption of such modifications was 5.5 liters, with a volume of one liter, and 4.6 liters with a maximum one and a half liters.
A large number of Smart cars can be found on our roads, because this is an ideal urban transport for work with minimal gas consumption. But even these mini-cars need constant maintenance and repair.
