The Peugeot 2008 is a B-segment SUV produced by the French manufacturer Peugeot since 2013. It has a transversely mounted engine, front-wheel drive, five seats and a five-door body. It indirectly replaced the station wagon version of the Peugeot 207, and the first generation uses, among others, the platform of the Peugeot 208 I, Citroën C3 II and Citroën DS3.
The model was shown as a prototype at the Beijing Motor Show in early 2012 as the Peugeot Urban Crossover Concept, and then in a more realistic version at the Paris Motor Show later that year as the Peugeot 2008 Concept. The production version premiered at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013.
Peugeot 2008 began to be sold from May 20, 2013, and sales exceeded Peugeot's expectations, for this reason they were forced to double the production of the model.
The Peugeot 2008 crossover is based on a two-eighths platform with McPherson struts in front and a semi-independent rear suspension. The distance between the axles of the 208 and 2008 is the same - 2538 mm, but the SUV is about 20 cm longer (4159 mm) and 10 cm higher (1556 mm) with the same width (1739 mm). A ground clearance of 160 mm speaks of the predominantly urban use of the crossover.
The radiator grille and the sharp lines of the headlights are made in the recognizable Peugeot family style of recent years. "Stepped" roof, roof rails and wide wheel arches complete the overall exterior. The wave in the middle of the roof was made not so much for beauty as for good: this is how the French won an additional headroom for rear passengers. Unpainted bumper and sill elements hint at practicality and versatility.
The crossover is also more spacious than the hatch - the volume of its luggage compartment is 360 liters, but by folding the back of the rear sofa (in a ratio of 60:40), the size of the compartment can be increased to 1194 liters. In addition to the main cargo compartment, the crossover is equipped with a large number of niches and drawers, providing another 24 liters of storage space.
Peugeot 2008 has seven engines: four petrol and three diesel. The basic version was equipped with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with a capacity of 82 hp. Turbocharged versions of the same unit: 1.2 THP with 110 hp. and 1.2 THP with 130 hp. Alternatively, a 1.6-liter 120-horsepower aspirated, known from a large number of other Peugeot models. The diesel range consists of a modest 1.4-liter engine with 68 hp. and the 1.6-litre HDi engine in two outputs: 92 and 115 hp.
Peugeot 2008 boasts an extremely moderate appetite - the minimum fuel consumption in the combined cycle is fixed at around 3.8 l / 100 km. Petrol versions are already equipped with a standard start-stop system. The crossover received an advanced stabilization system and borrowed the Grip Control option from the Peugeot 3008 colleague, which coordinates the operation of the stabilization system and the anti-skid system and thereby adapts the behavior of the front-wheel drive Peugeot 2008 to different types of road surfaces. Peugeot 2008 is a direct competitor to Nissan Juke and Opel Mokka.
In June 2019, the Peugeot 2008 II was introduced. Like the Peugeot 208 II or the Citroën DS 3 Crossback, it is based on the Common Modular Platform (CMP).
