Repair and service Nissan cars in the eBook
Nissan Motor Company, Limited (commonly abbreviated as Nissan) is a multinational Japanese automobile manufacturer. Its head office has been in Yokohama since 2010. Its common name Nissan is an abbreviation for "Nippon Sangyo".
The company ranks among the leading automotive companies in terms of annual car production.
In the automotive market, the company is present under the brands Nissan, Infiniti and Datsun. Known in the European market primarily for its SUVs, the Nissan Micra city car and the Nissan Qashqai crossover. It is the second largest Japanese manufacturer after Toyota.
The first car to be marketed under the Datsun brand entered production in 1935. After the production of about 20,000 cars, production was stopped in 1941 due to the war and was restored in 1947.
In 1951, an off-road vehicle was put into production, in which the experience gained during the war years on military vehicles was applied. Thus was born the Nissan Patrol, which was destined to become a legend. With an 85 horsepower six-cylinder engine and excellent all-wheel drive, the Japanese SUV even surpasses the American Jeep Willis in power and payload.
In 1969, the Datsun 240Z sports car was launched with a 2.4-liter inline-six engine producing 150 horsepower. Subsequently, the Datsun brand was used less and less and the models began to be sold directly under the Nissan brand.
The development of motorization has led to road accidents and exacerbated the problem of air pollution. Nissan developed its first experimental safety car in 1971 and has adopted an extensive vehicle safety program over the years. To prevent air pollution, Japan has imposed the highest gas emission standards. That's why Nissan has developed a three-phase catalytic converter system.
Nissan, like its competitors Toyota and Honda, also brought to the market a new distinctive high-end car brand, Infiniti, which was first used in the North American market in 1989.
In the same nineties, the company became involved in the financial crisis of the entire group to which it belonged. The company's financial position was also affected by the acquisition of part of the share capital of the French Renault.
Since 1999, Nissan has been part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, (a partnership between Japanese Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors and French Renault). Renault owns 43.4% of Nissan's voting shares and Nissan owns 15% of Renault's non-voting shares.
In the years that followed, production of the Nissan-Renault alliance varied from city cars to sports cars, from classic to modern SUVs, not forgetting the production of commercial vehicles. Several new electric vehicle technologies have been tested in recent years.
In addition, Nissan is also the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer. The best-selling vehicle in the all-electric lineup is the Nissan Leaf, the all-electric and the world's best-selling electric vehicle.
