It is a very successful car in all its versions, reliable, with a huge reputation, whether it is a coupe or sedan, family, 3 or 5 doors, due to its excellent mechanics, its characteristics and qualities in the rally world, enjoying great popularity and recognition. He is the winner of the Safari Kenya Rally and one of the winners of the World Rally Championship thanks to his renowned endurance.

There are eight generations of Mitsubishi Lancer, the last of which was officially presented at the Detroit Auto Show in 2007.

Depending on the generation, Mitsubishi Lancer existed in coupe, sedan, hatchback and station wagon bodies, with rear, front or all-wheel drive. In some markets, hatchback versions of some generations were sold under the Mitsubishi Colt and Mitsubishi Mirage names. To date, more than 10 million vehicles of this model have been sold worldwide.

Mitsubishi Lancer was first introduced to the world market in 1973. The car was originally conceived as a mass model and was supposed to take an intermediate place between the Mitsubishi Galant mid-size sedan and the Mitsubishi Minica compact hatchback.

It was a rear-wheel drive car, and it was produced in 12 modifications with four-cylinder engines of the Saturn family of 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 liters. There were three body types to choose from - coupe, sedan and station wagon, the latter already had the designation Station Wagon, which has survived to this day.

The safety of the driver and passengers was guarded by high strength and rigidity of the body, disc brakes with a backup master cylinder and an emergency steering column. In 1975, the Mitsubishi Lancer Celeste three-door hatchback appeared with a completely new body. The car was produced with engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, then a 2-liter was added to them.

In 1976, the second generation Mitsubishi Lancer entered the series, which was actually a modernization of an existing car. The car became more angular and this time it was made only in a four-door body. The main changes are a different design of the front end and larger bumpers that comply with US safety standards.

The third generation of the model appeared in 1979 and was called the Mitsubishi Lancer EX in Japan. The highest level of comfort for those times was created by elegant interior trim, comfortable polyurethane seats and first-class air conditioning. The interior has become more spacious, and the dependent rear suspension has been replaced by a four-link independent.

This generation was offered in Europe with a 1.4L engine (Lancer 1400 GLX) with 50kW and a 1.6L engine (Lancer 1600 GSR) with 60kW. Both featured Silent Shaft technology with two balancer shafts to reduce vibration.

In November 2007, the eighth generation Mitsubishi Lancer was launched in Europe in a sedan version, while the station wagon of its predecessor remained on sale for about a year.

A hatchback version (marketing designation: "Sportback") followed on November 15, 2008, replacing the previous wagon version. At the beginning of 2009, a newly developed Euro 5 diesel engine was added.

In June 2010, the series underwent a technical facelift, which is especially noticeable in the change in the level of equipment and interior design. In 2017, Mitsubishi officially announced that it would cease production of this model.

Currently, this car model is available only in the secondary market. And this means that these cars have been in operation for a long time and need periodic repairs.
