Information on repair and maintenance of Mitsubishi Galant cars electronically

The Mitsubishi Galant is a mid-size passenger car produced between 1969 and 2012 by the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors. Mitsubishi Galant started production as a sedan, but there were also coupe, family and liftback versions.

Its initial production was in Japan, but since 1994, the American market has offered to produce cars at the former Diamond-Star Motors (DSM) plant in Normal, Illinois.

The first generation Mitsubishi Galant, originally sold as the Mitsubishi Colt Galant, was introduced in December 1969.

Initially, only a four-door sedan with a 1.3- or 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine was available in three versions. A two-door sedan coupe followed in the spring of 1970, becoming the first Japanese car without B-pillars.

The Mitsubishi Colt Galant was the first Mitsubishi model to be exported to North America, where it was sold under the Dodge Colt name after the Chrysler Group bought Mitsubishi shares in 1970.

Also in 1970, Mitsubishi followed the other models with a hatchback called the Mitsubishi Galant GTO, which was available with three different engines and remained on sale until 1975. The GTO model designation was revived by Mitsubishi with the release of the Mitsubishi GTO in the 1990s.

In the spring of 1971, another coupé variant was added to the lineup called the Galant FTO, with a 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine. This designation was also renewed by the factory in the 1990s with the Mitsubishi FTO.

Among the distinguishing features of the first Mitsubishi Galant were the aerodynamic "wedge" body shape, which created additional downforce, and the Saturn series engine with an overhead camshaft and aluminum cylinder head. Thus, the 1969 Mitsubishi Galant, which embodied the best modern developments and technologies of its time, became the ancestor of a whole segment of the Japanese automotive market.

In 1976, the spring rear suspension was replaced with a leaf spring, and balance shafts appeared on the engines for the first time. In 1980, the body and engine range were updated, the rear suspension became independent. In 1983, Japan introduced the all-new Mitsubishi Galant, a mid-range front-wheel drive sedan with engines equipped with electronic fuel injection.

In 1987, the company introduced the fourth generation Mitsubishi Galant, more complex and technically advanced. The salon was distinguished by an unusual design of the front panel and a large interior space. Smaller engines were equipped with multi-valve heads, the brakes were equipped with ABS.

On request, it was possible to install a rear axle differential lock. Plus independent suspension with automatic damping adjustment and body level maintenance. True, all these technical delights were available only in the Japanese market; cars were exported in a simpler version.

The new ninth-generation Mitsubishi Galant has been offered in the US since the summer of 2004. It was only available as a sedan and optionally with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (4G69) with 119 kW (162 hp) or V6 (6G75) with 3.8 liters and 171 kW (233 hp).

In 2007, the Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart was introduced, which featured a performance-optimized version of the 3.8-litre V6 engine.

In the fall of 2008, the Galant received a facelift. This can be recognized by the grille, which is no longer interrupted by the stripe and logo.

Despite the fact that the production of the Mitsubishi Galant has already ceased, today it is quite common to find this model on sale and on the roads that need to be maintained and repaired, like other cars.
