Information on repair and maintenance of Mazda 5 cars electronically

The Mazda 5 is a passenger car classified as a compact minivan produced by the Japanese automaker Mazda from 2005 to 2010 in the first generation (codenamed Type CR) and second generation (codenamed Type CW) from 2010 to 2018.

In 2015, the Mazda 5 was replaced by the Mazda CX-3. Worldwide sales of the Mazda 5 were discontinued in 2018. In Japan, the model continued to be sold under the Premacy name.

The Mazda 5, unveiled at the 2004 Paris Motor Show, is based on the Ford C1 platform, which was also used in the Mazda 3.

The Mazda 5 is positioned as a compact multifunctional car, its distinctive features are double sliding rear doors (unique in its segment) and a seat folding system that allows you to change the cargo compartment for passengers into a very ergonomic trunk (Karakuri system).

The luggage compartment has a minimum volume of 112 liters, which increases to 426 liters with the third row of seats folded down and reaches a maximum volume of 1566 liters with the second row of seats folded.

The base chassis has been used by many models in the Ford group, such as the Ford Focus, Ford C-Max, Volvo S40 as well as the Mazda 3. The front suspension uses a simple and reliable McPherson design and the more sophisticated Multilink at the rear.

The Mazda 5 is offered in Europe with four engines, two of which are petrol (1.8 and 2.0 16V from 116 and 146 horsepower) and two Common Rail diesels labeled MZR-CD, equipped with a standard particulate filter (2.0 with power 110 and 143 horsepower).

The gearbox for 2-liter engines is a 6-speed manual gearbox, while a 5-speed automatic gearbox is available as an option on 2.0 petrol engines only. At the same time, the 1.8 16V engine is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission.

In Asia and the US, the Mazda 5 is also available with a 160 horsepower 2.3 16V petrol engine. Data refer to models presented after 2008 restyling.

The main features of Mazda 5 cars:

  • two sliding doors on both sides at the rear instead of the usual swing doors for this class;
  • two-stage tailgate opening;
  • five or seven seats according to the Karakuri-B concept (special folding and sliding system);
  • navigation system with rear view camera;
  • keyless entry and start login;
  • CD player with 20 GB hard disk space, music player with hard disk;
  • DVD-Cinema audio system with flip-down screen in the ceiling above the second row of seats.

Almost three years after entering the market, Mazda unveiled an updated version of the Mazda5 at the Bologna Motor Show on December 7, 2007. The front has been redesigned with a new grille, redesigned air intakes and a spoiler lip. At the rear, the bumper has been redesigned and the alloy wheels have been redesigned. Sales of the modified model began in the spring of 2008.

Improved noise isolation, a newly tuned chassis with different dampers and a more responsive brake booster provide greater comfort and safety.

In 2010, the new Mazda 5 appeared. The engines used a new 1.6-liter diesel with a volume of 1560 cm³ and 115 hp. Since the old gasoline engines have been retained, this leads to the curious situation where the Mazda 5 as a diesel requires less displacement for the same power than a gasoline engine.
