Information on repair and maintenance of Honda Pilot cars electronically

The Honda Pilot, which debuted in 2001, is a full-size SUV built on a platform similar to the Acura MDX, which debuted a year earlier. This car was developed by the American division of Honda and was originally intended for the foreign market. However, due to its successful design, the car gradually became available in other markets.

The first generation of the Honda Pilot was distinguished by its powerful power plant and modern all-wheel drive, which ensured reliability and comfort when traveling on various routes. The main element of this SUV was a powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine, developing 240 hp and equipped with the famous VTEC system for changing the valve timing.

Characteristics of Honda Pilot

As is often the case in American models, the engine was combined exclusively with an automatic transmission, in this case with a 5-speed "automatic". The gearshift lever was located traditionally for American cars, being located to the right of the steering column. The suspension, in turn, was tuned to American road conditions and driver preferences.

The Honda Pilot is aimed at drivers who value comfort above speed. The chassis design of the car resembles more luxurious business-class sedans, with a MacPherson-type front suspension and a complex multi-link rear suspension. The impressive weight (more than two tons) does not allow this SUV to be highly maneuverable in turns.

However, the all-wheel drive provides good capabilities for overcoming adverse weather conditions and not too serious bumps on the road. The model is equipped with fully independent suspension on all wheels, disc brakes all around and automatic all-wheel drive VTM-4. Instead of a traditional viscous coupling, an electromagnetic clutch is used to regulate the distribution of torque.

The interior of the Honda Pilot is distinguished by a conservative design and convenience. The seating position resembles a passenger car, providing a comfortable position for the driver and passengers. The car is equipped with many cup holders, various glove compartments and pockets for storing small items, which makes it especially convenient for families with children. On the back seat there are special pockets for storing electronic games, markers and other small items.

The automaker positions the Honda Pilot as the only eight-seater car in its class. However, it should be noted that the eight-seater configuration is nominal, since the back seat does not provide sufficient comfort for two passengers. However, the third row of seats can be easily folded, creating a flat surface and increasing the volume of luggage space.

In October 2005, the Honda Pilot underwent modernization: the radiator grille, headlights and taillights were updated. The interior received side airbags, a new instrument panel, chrome trim elements and improved storage compartments for small items.

The power of the 3.5 L J35Z1 (for the front-wheel drive version) and 3.5 L J35A9 (for the all-wheel drive version) engines increased to 244 hp (182 kW) at 5600 rpm, and the torque was 325 Nm at 4500 rpm. The front-wheel drive version of the Honda Pilot was equipped with a selective cylinder deactivation (VCM) system, which turned off up to three cylinders to save fuel under minimal loads. The updated version was produced until December 2007.

The world premiere of the new generation of the crossover took place at the international auto show in Detroit in January 2008. Sales began in October 2008 in the United States and Canada. In these markets, the SUV was offered in four trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions were equipped with a new engine - a 3.5-liter J35Z4 V6 VTEC with a power of 253 hp at 5700 rpm and a torque of 343 Nm at 4800 rpm. The car was equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

The debut of the third generation Honda Pilot took place on February 12, 2015 at the Chicago Auto Show. Production of the new model began in May of the same year, and in June it went on sale in the North American market. The third generation is built on a modernized platform, which is also used by the Acura MDX, with a McPherson-type front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension.

The crossover is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with the i-VTEC Earth Dreams system, developing 283 hp and 355 Nm of torque. The engine also includes a VCM system, which allows you to turn off two or three cylinders to improve fuel efficiency, and a start / stop system. Depending on the version, the Pilot can be equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 9-speed ZF 9HP automatic transmission. All-wheel drive models use the i-VTM4 system. A version with a hybrid power plant also appeared in the lineup.
