Information on repair and maintenance of Ford Explorer cars electronically

Ford Explorer is a mid-size crossover from the famous American automobile company Ford Motor, which has been produced since 1990. Throughout its history, the model has gone through several restyling and as a result, today there are 5 generations of the car.

The world saw a representative of the first generation Ford Explorer in 1990. The model replaced the discontinued Ford Bronco II. At the same time, as soon as the release of the Explorer started, the model began to enjoy immense popularity and for two years in a row (1990, 1991) the car received the title of the best all-wheel drive car of the year. The model was three and five doors, and a four-cylinder Ford Cologne V6 engine was installed under the hood, the power of which was 155 horsepower. As for the gearbox, the Ford Explorer was equipped with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic.

The second generation was distinguished by a streamlined body and a redesigned steering system. There is a new front panel with two airbags. Significant changes have taken place in the engines. Now a choice has been presented among:

  • four liter Cologne V6 with 160 horsepower;
  • four liter Cologne V6 with 208 horsepower;
  • five liter Cologne V8 with 218 horsepower.

Not spared the changes and transmission. As part of the restyling, an improved five-speed mechanics appeared. The second generation models could be equipped with one of three types of all-wheel drive.

The third generation was even more modernized than the previous one. As part of the restyling, another row of seats appeared, the dimensions increased, the frame changed. In general, the changes affected almost all components of the model. The Cologne V6 engine became the owner of an aluminum block head. Engine power also increased and was now 210 horsepower. As part of this generation, a new Triton V8 engine appeared, with a volume of 4.6 liters and a power of 240 horsepower.

The fourth generation was no exception and was distinguished by even greater changes. The Cologne V6 engine has been updated, the frame has become more rigid, and a six-speed automatic has appeared. Changes have occurred in the suspension and appearance. The radiator grille and head optics have been updated.

The platform for the fifth generation was the platform used in cars such as the Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT. A supporting structure appeared instead of a frame one. This caused the car to increase in length by 20 cm. But the boot volume remained the same (2280 liters). There are two new engines: the two-liter EcoBoost and the 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6. Cars could now be equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Fifth generation cars are still produced today, but this does not mean that representatives of previous generations have disappeared from the roads. All generations can be found all over the world. Therefore, the relevance of repair and maintenance remains. And every owner who wants to better understand his vehicle should have a special manual for repair and operation on hand.
