Information on repair and maintenance of Audi 90 cars electronically

The Audi 90 is a sedan car based on the Audi 80 model, produced by the German automaker Audi between 1984 and 1991 in two series, as well as a third series intended only for North American markets.

From 1984 to July 1986, the Audi 90 (B2) was produced as a luxury variant of the Audi 80 B2 (Type 81/85).

The aim of this model range, based on the Audi 80 B2 Type 81/85, which was revised in August 1984, was to compete with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes 190 with a sporty, exclusive model inferior to the significantly larger Audi 100 C3.

In addition to many body components used in the Audi Coupé GT, the Audi 90 differed from the Audi 80 with more powerful engines and better equipment. The main external differences were broadband headlights, thermoplastic bumpers with integrated turn signals and fog lamps, cropped side skirts, stainless steel trim strips on the bumpers and door skid strips, and an orange-red center panel at the rear, similar to the Audi 200.

The Audi 90 came only with inline five-cylinder engines. The exception is the rare 1.6 liter four-cylinder turbodiesel with 51 kW (70 hp). From the very beginning, the model was available with either front-wheel drive (Type 81) or quattro drive (Type 85, only with 2.2 liter engine).

Beginning with the 1985 model year, the 2.2 L engine also came with a variable catalytic converter for unleaded gasoline. The 2.0-litre engine was only available from 1986 on unleaded petrol and only with a non-regulated catalytic converter.

Another new feature is the presence of an anti-lock braking system (ABS) - only for the 2.2-liter engine at an additional cost. Power steering was standard equipment on the 2.2-liter engine. Other options included electric windows, electrically adjustable outside mirrors and a sunroof, as well as headlight cleaning, air conditioning and cruise control (tempomat).

The Audi 90 B3 appeared in May 1987. It differs from the Audi 80 B3/Type 89 by a redesigned front end, bumpers and exterior mirrors painted in the car's color, turn signals integrated into the front bumpers, chrome bumper trims and redesigned front and rear lights. It also featured more powerful engines and a higher quality interior compared to the Audi 80. In addition, the list of special equipment has been expanded. This series had a completely galvanized body. Audi's Procon-ten safety system was available at an additional cost.

Five-cylinder petrol engines with a displacement of 2.0 and 2.3 liters, as well as a four-cylinder turbodiesel with a displacement of 1.6 liters were offered.

Since February 1988, Audi has had the first four-valve engine of the large series "Audi 90 Quattro 20V" with a displacement of 1994 cm³ and an output of 118 kW (160 hp) with a non-regulated catalytic converter (engine code: NM), as well as the "2.3 20V » with a volume of 2309 cm³ and a power of 125 kW (170 hp) with catalytic converter (ICD: 7A). The 2.3-litre five-cylinder engine with 100 kW (136 hp; since 1990 98 kW/133 hp) is the most popular engine in the Audi 90. The 2.0 20V, 2.3E and 2.3 20V models were available with Quattro all-wheel drive.

The 2.3E was initially available with a three-speed automatic transmission without torque converter lockup. From 1990, the 2.3E and 2.3 20V models were offered with a four-speed automatic transmission. There was also a sports button, and fourth gear had a torque converter lock-up.

Following the facelift of the Audi 80 B3 in late summer 1991 and the subsequent introduction of the Audi 80 B4 in Europe, the Audi 90 was no longer offered under this model name. Regardless of engine size and configuration, all mid-range Audi models were only available as the Audi 80.
