Setting the Acura apart from its mainstream North American counterpart is a slightly longer nose with shaped headlights, a full-width lower air intake and a slight crease along the centerline of the hood. The jeweled taillights and sheet metal trunk shape contrast with the more luxurious appearance of the Acura CSX compared to the Honda Civic.
The Acura CSX went on sale in November 2005 as a 2006 model, offering three trim levels: Touring (base model), Premium and Premium + Navi.
The base Touring trim includes 16-inch alloy wheels, antilock brakes, side and curtain airbags, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, paddle shifters for automatic models, heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signals, a 6-speaker audio system with CD/MP3/WMA support, automatic climate control, cruise control, chrome door handles and 60/40 split folding rear seats.
The Premium model brought important additions such as high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power moonroof, and an in-dash 6-disc CD changer. The Navi trim was only available as an upgrade to Premium and included a bilingual voice-activated navigation system, illuminated steering wheel controls, and a digital audio card reader.
While remaining exclusive to the Acura CSX, the 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine, HID headlights, chrome door handles, steering wheel paddle shifters, and 6-disc CD changer were not available on Honda Civic models in Canada and the United States. These features gave the car a unique style and functionality.
In 2008, changes affected all Acura CSX models. Leather upholstery, tire pressure monitoring, illuminated vanity mirrors and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) are standard on all versions of the Acura CSX. The discontinuation of the base trim with fabric seats was due to the availability of the Honda Civic EX-L trim, offered starting with the 2008 model year.
For 2009, the Acura CSX, like the Honda Civic, received a makeover. The main changes include the use of Acura's signature Power Plenum grille, black headlights, octagonal taillights, and a front bumper and fog lights. 17-inch alloy wheels, previously only available on the Type S version, are now standard equipment on all trims. Other new features for 2009 included USB audio connectivity on all versions and Bluetooth hands-free wireless connectivity on Technology and Type-S models.
In 2010, the base model was discontinued and the entry-level technology version was renamed "iTech". For the latest model year, 2011, the Acura CSX lineup has been simplified, offering two trim levels: Base and iTech. The retail price of both versions has decreased significantly compared to the previous 2010 models.
