Repair and service Tank cars in the eBook

Tank is a premium line of body-on-frame SUVs produced by Chinese automotive giant Great Wall Motors (GWM). The brand’s history is relatively recent: in 2020, GWM introduced its first Tank 300 as part of the Wey sub-brand, but by 2021 Tank had become an independent brand focused on rugged, reliable, and technologically advanced off-road vehicles.

This was a strategic move in response to growing global interest in the SUV segment and off-road culture.

History of the Tank brand

Tank combines Chinese engineering fundamentals and modern design with world-class technologies. Its distinguishing feature is a classic body-on-frame chassis equipped with premium options usually found in higher-tier vehicles.

In China and the Middle East, Tank quickly became a symbol of status and reliability, and by 2023 its models officially launched in Europe, Australia, and the CIS markets.

Flagship models include the Tank 300, Tank 400, Tank 500, and Tank 700 Hi4‑T—ranging from compact to full-size premium SUVs, positioned to compete with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Jeep Wrangler, and Ford Bronco.

Technical specifications of Tank

Tank vehicles are built on the new GWM TANK modular platform, designed for heavy-duty use. All models feature body-on-frame construction, permanent or selectable four-wheel drive, and enhanced off-road capability.

The Tank 300 is powered by a 2.0 GDIT turbocharged petrol engine producing 220 hp and 380 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic and low-range transfer case. Suspension is independent in front and multi-link at the rear, with 224 mm ground clearance and a wading depth of up to 700 mm.

The Tank 500 is a larger SUV powered by a 3.0 V6 turbo engine producing 354 hp and 500 Nm. It features four-wheel drive with electronic locks on the front, center, and rear differentials, adaptive air suspension, and various off-road driving modes.

Since 2024, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions have been introduced. For instance, the Tank 500 Hi4‑T combines a petrol engine and an electric motor for a total output of up to 517 hp while maintaining high fuel efficiency.

The interior is luxurious: digital instrument cluster, up to 14.6″ infotainment screen, Infinity audio, ventilated seats, panoramic roof, and ADAS systems (adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection). Tank is designed as a versatile vehicle for city, highway, and off-road use.

Tank repair manual

Despite its advanced technology, all Tank models come with official PDF user manuals and repair guides, simplifying service whether in a workshop or DIY. These manuals are available through dealerships, forums, and the Tank Club technical community.

The PDF manual includes:

  • Detailed descriptions of powertrains (2.0 GDIT, 3.0 V6, Hi4‑T hybrid);
  • Procedures for inspecting the engine, transmission, and suspension;
  • Instructions for removing and installing components;
  • Electrical and CAN wiring diagrams;
  • Troubleshooting guides using OBD‑II and fault codes;
  • Maintenance schedules, fluid specs, and torque settings.

All content is organized, illustrated, and step‑by‑step. Users can easily find sections—whether it’s brake pad replacement, checking the oxygen sensor, or calibrating radar sensors.

Even with its reliability, Tank vehicles may experience typical faults. The PDF manual allows owners to quickly diagnose and fix issues:

  • Turbocharger problems (loss of power, pressure errors) — actuator adjustment, bypass valve check;
  • Hi4‑T hybrid system faults — control unit, contactor, and inverter module inspection;
  • ABS/ESP errors — fault code reading, sensor cleaning or replacement;
  • Engine overheating — thermostat, cooling fan, and coolant level check;
  • Suspension noises — inspecting joints, bushings, shocks and replacing as needed;
  • Electrical faults — tracing wiring, replacing relays, clearing error codes via diagnostic port.

In summary, the Tank PDF repair manual makes this SUV easy to service—even far from official dealerships. This is a major advantage for owners using the vehicle in challenging conditions.
