Repair and service Skoda cars in the eBook

Skoda Auto, commonly referred to as Skoda, is a Czech car manufacturer founded in 1895 under the name Laurin & amp; Klement and since 1991 owned by the German group Volkswagen AG. While the industrial group Skoda Industries has existed since 1869, the automotive division did not appear until 50 years later.

Skoda's history dates back to the early 1890s when it started out as a bicycle repair shop. In 1895, Vaclav Klement and Vaclav Laurin opened their own bicycle production. Laurin was already in the bicycle business before starting a new business with book seller Clement.

Already in 1898, the production of motorcycles began at the new plant they built, and in 1905, cars entered their production.

In 1924, after several financial problems and a fire, the company began looking for a partner. And already in 1925, Skoda Industries acquired the then famous brand Laurin & amp; Klement, which in those years was going through a serious financial crisis. Vaclav Laurin was entrusted with technical guidance and the new production of cars, motorcycles and bicycles was placed on the market under the Laurin & amp; Klement - Skoda or L & amp; K - Skoda. Laurin & amp; Klement, located in the small town of Mlada Boleslav, will become the head office of Skoda Auto.

Skoda's refurbishment at the Mlada Boleslav plant was very radical and included the construction of a modern assembly line for mass production of cars and the development of a new line of 4-, 6- and 8-cylinder engines designed to power cars. However, despite the innovations, L & amp; K - Skoda products did not achieve the expected high distribution, including due to the great competition presented by Tatra.

Since March 28, 1991, Skoda has created a joint technical and economic venture with the Volkswagen concern, which in 2000 will acquire the entire stake in Skoda, giving it the current name Skoda Auto.

The styling and engineering design has been greatly improved thanks to the support and investment of VW. Improving the quality of the 1996 Skoda Felicia model based on the Skoda Favorit platform made the model a success in the Czech Republic. Later models Skoda Octavia and Skoda Fabia managed to break into the European market. These vehicles were built on the same platforms as other Volkswagen Group models:

  • Skoda Octavia shares structure with Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 and SEAT Leon;
  • The Skoda Fabia shares the same structure with the Volkswagen Polo and SEAT Ibiza.

The perception of Skoda in Western Europe has completely changed. As it developed and more attractive models appeared on the market, Skoda's image began to improve. In the new millennium, new cars are born, such as:

  • Skoda Fabia (replaced Skoda Felicia);
  • Skoda Superb (top model of the Czech house, built on the basis of the Volkswagen Passat);
  • Skoda Roomster (compact minivan, produced since March 2005);
  • Skoda Yeti (compact mid-range crossover, produced from 2009 to 2017);
  • Skoda Rapid (C segment model, produced from 2012 to 2019, available as a four-door hatchback and a five-door hatchback, called the Rapid Spaceback);
  • Skoda Kodiaq (family SUV vehicle that entered the market in March 2017);
  • Skoda Scala (5-door compact sedan in production since 2019);
  • Skoda Kamiq (urban crossover launched in Q3 2019).
