History of the Mack Brand

The history of Mack Trucks began in 1900 when brothers John and Augustus Mack founded the Mack Brothers Company in Brooklyn, New York. Originally focused on producing buses and railcars, the company shifted to heavy truck production in 1905, which became its primary direction.

The iconic "Bulldog" nickname came from British soldiers during World War I, who called the rugged Mack AC military trucks “bulldogs” due to their strength, endurance, and distinctive look. In 1922, the bulldog became the brand’s official symbol.
