Repair and service Kia cars in the eBook
Kia Motors is a South Korean car manufacturer, the first of its kind to launch a car production in an Asian country. Kia Motors is currently the oldest car manufacturer in Korea.
The first syllable "Ki" of the word Kia means "open yourself to the world." The second syllable "A" is the first letter of the word Asia. So Kia stands for “Asia opens up to the world.”
Founded in 1944, it began as a Honda motorcycle assembler in South Korea, starting with a steel pipe and bicycle component factory. Later, she began to produce motorcycles, trucks and cars. In 1951, Kia released its first bicycle, the samcholli-ho, which was produced for nine years. In 1961, Kia released its first motorcycle, the C-100, and three months later, the K-360 scooter.
It took Kia nine years to start manufacturing cars under the Asia Motors brand in 1971, building the Fiat 124 under license for the South Korean market. In 1973, Kia released its first gasoline engine for automobiles.
In 1974, Asia Motors becomes the Kia Motors Company and produces the first car of its own design, which has been exporting since 1975. Three years later, Kia launches its first diesel engine, and in 1976 begins production of models licensed for the Fiat 132 and Peugeot 604.
The eighties were a turning point for the company:
- in-house production of a commercial vehicle, a monophonic Kia Bongo, was started;
- a partnership was started with the Japanese company Mazda to create a vehicle primarily intended for agriculture;
- in 1986, a new important shareholder emerged, Ford, which produced its Ford Festiva at Kia's Korean factories and then exported it to the United States.
After a period of strong growth, followed by a deep crisis over the crisis that hit Southeast Asia, the company was forced to file for bankruptcy in 1997. And the next year it was bought by one of its fierce rivals Hyundai.
Today Kia Motors is part of a large industrial group controlled by the Hyundai Motor Company. Kia Motors sells about a third of its vehicles in Korea and the United States. Europe is the third largest market for Kia vehicles.
2009 saw the launch of the powerful 4.6-liter V8 petrol engines and the new 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel with 240 horsepower.
Also introduced in 2009 were the new Kia Cerato sedans (Kia Forte) and the flagship Kia Cadenza, a large sedan about 5.0 meters long, powered by powerful petrol engines ranging from 165 to 290 horsepower.
In 2010, Kia unveiled the first infotainment system created in collaboration with Microsoft: the Kia UVO. This technological device is controlled by voice recognition and combines a multimedia system with a touchscreen car radio and satellite navigation. You can also use Bluetooth to manage calls and messages on your mobile phone.
