It soon became known that this was an improved alternative to the even cheaper Kia Sedona. In 2001, Trajet was joined by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel version with a capacity of 111 hp.
The car is 4.7 meters long and has a maximum trunk volume of 2,716 liters. Seven single seats are installed in the cabin, from which the seats of the second and third rows can be folded and taken out of the car. With all seats in place, the trunk holds 304 liters. The standard car is equipped with electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking, front fog lights, air conditioning, adjustable lumbar support on the driver's seat and three 12 V sockets.
In the summer of 2004, Hyundai carried out a very light facelift of the car, so later models could be distinguished by a modified radiator grille and a set of headlights. At the same time, the existing 2.0-liter gasoline engine was replaced by a CVVT unit of the same power with more power and lower emissions. Hyundai Trajet was discreetly withdrawn from production in mid-2008.
From a practical point of view, Hyundai Trajet combines well with any of its seven-seater competitors, although, as with most of them, the luggage compartment is somewhat limited when using all seats. The front seats turn to face the back, and the five rear seats are easily removed.
Maneuverability and smoothness are adequate. However, while good road manners are important to minivan buyers, a smooth ride is usually a priority, and the Hyundai Trajet is unlikely to disappoint. The same can be said for refinement and performance: they're good enough to satisfy most needs, but by no means best-in-class.
