The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a mid-size four-wheel drive vehicle belonging to the Toyota Land Cruiser range and manufactured by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation since 1984.
Toyota Land Cruiser J70 was released in 1984 to replace the J40. It was the fourth generation Toyota Land Cruiser and the first Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. In 1990, the model was modernized with a change in appearance.
The second generation of the 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was created as a more off-road vehicle. It was the first car in the family to be equipped with independent front suspension.
The third generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was released in 2002. The car in this series uses the same platform as the Toyota 4Runner and Toyota FJ Cruiser. Compared to previous generations, the three-door body has been eliminated and only the five-door remains.
This model uses the following gasoline engines:
- inline four-cylinder 2.7-liter engine with 152 hp;
- inline four-cylinder engine with a volume of 2.7 liters and a capacity of 162 hp;
- 3.4-liter V6 with 193 hp;
- 4.0-liter V6 with 242 hp
Variants of the 3.0-liter in-line four-cylinder diesel engine are also used:
- naturally aspirated with a maximum power of 95 hp;
- turbocharged 131 hp;
- with variable geometry turbocharger and common rail direct injection, developing 173 hp
The fourth generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado went on sale at the end of 2009. In terms of aesthetics, it remains very close to the previous version and looks like a simple restyling, although it has undergone significant changes.
In 2013, the car was restyled. In 2015, it received a new 2.8 D-4D engine with 177 hp, complying with the new Euro 6 emission standard.
In 2017, the second restyling of the 4x4 model was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show:
- headlights have been improved;
- redesigned radiator grille and shields;
- redesigned interior rear lights.
