Information on repair and maintenance of Kia Shuma cars electronically

Kia Shuma is a C-segment passenger car manufactured by Korean manufacturer Kia Motors since 1998, its predecessor being the Kia Sephia, which was replaced in 2004 by the Kia Cerato or Spectra. Kia Shuma was available in both hatchback and sedan versions.

In developing the latest incarnation of the Kia Sephia, Kia decided to give the successor to the five-door variant a personal touch.

It received a separate style from the Kia Sephia sedan, characterized by avant-garde, triple-lens headlights and a rounded silhouette with a gently sloping roofline. The boot body was seamlessly integrated into it, the lid of which opened with glass.

To emphasize a separate character from the twin three-volume version, the car received a different name Kia Shuma. With the Kia Sephia, the car shared the same four-cylinder powertrains, as well as a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

Kia Shuma was not offered under a separate name in all markets. In Australia, the car was offered under the same name as the sedan version - Kia Mentor, and in South America, Asia and North America, Shuma was part of the Kia Sephia lineup. In the last market in 1999, shortly before restyling, the car changed its name to Kia Spectra.

Kia Shuma was produced in two series:

  • Kia Shuma I from October 1997 to December 2001;
  • Kia Shuma II from May 2001 to August 2004

Both production versions were available with different equipment and engine options, but there were virtually no technical differences, highlighted by the FB internal model code which remained the same. American crash tests also show little to no difference between the two models, with the US NCAP test even showing an overall better result for the Kia Shuma I.

The main visual differences were the shape of the headlights and a significantly upgraded and better insulated interior. The base configuration of the Kia Shuma II was slightly higher than that of its predecessor. In addition, since 2003 it has been available with a part-leather interior as standard and, around the same time, as an option with a two-tone all-leather interior.
